
Our two-day blended delivery and practical simulation program is concise and supports you to learn about the anatomy and physiology of the human body to further support your learning about the recognition and promotion of ways to maintain healthy body functions. You will also learn about common medications and related potential side effects, how medications can be delivered e.g. orally or creams, and infection prevention strategies. Our course is designed according to relevant Commonwealth, SA & WA State legislation. The Hazardous manual tasks code of practice is also inclusive to this training. Training is delivered by our experienced and highly skilled educators within a simulated environment equipped with hospital beds, patient hoisters, slide sheets, and wheelchairs. These task-based equipment enable you to develop your manual handling skills such as transfers, walking, client bed mobility and falls management you can encounter in your job roles. Safe manual handling practices include ways and processes to reduce the risk of injury while performing these duties, such as good posture and use of mechanic aids. You will complete this training equipped with the nationally recognised competency skill requirements to assess, plan for and provide safe assistance for your clients while keeping yourself safe during work-based physical tasks. The course fee is $120.00 or $60.00 for currently enrolled Open Colleges School of Health nursing students.

Through hands-on skills lab training and a 120-hour vocational placement in a disability support setting, you’ll gain real-world experience in providing person-centred care. You’ll learn to assist with daily living activities, support skill development, promote independence, and create inclusive opportunities tailored to each individual’s needs. Your training will be guided by experienced and highly skilled educators, combining classroom delivery with industry-standard simulated skills labs to ensure you graduate confident, capable, and ready for the workforce.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with skills lab training and clinical placements, empowering you to deliver exceptional care to your clients. Our course will give you the knowledge and skills to help you to contribute and make a positive impact on the lives of older people and those living with a disability. You will learn hands-on skills to support your individual clients’ needs such as maintaining personal care, supporting their skill development, and other person-centred care. Your training is delivered and supported with a personal touch by our experienced and highly skilled educators through a blended learning approach of classroom delivery and industry standard simulated skills lab. This course requires you to complete 160 hours of supported vocational work placement (80hrs in residential care and 80hrs in disability support) where you will use your newly developed care skills in the real world professionally and confidently.
