About the role:
The Criminal Proceeds Squad is part of the Economic Crime Division, Crime Command and undertakes investigations in relation to the restraint of proceeds of crime. They operate under the Asset Confiscation Scheme with partners, the Office or Public Prosecutions and Asset Confiscation Operations (DJCS).
The Criminal Proceeds Squad consists of both sworn and VPS members.
The office conducts unexplained wealth investigations related to serious and profit motivated organised crime, taking restraint action under the Confiscation Act 1997. The office also investigates money laundering and serious financial crimes that affect Victoria, linked to drug, outlaw motorcycle gangs, fraud and cybercrime offences.
The Criminal Proceeds Squad analytical team consists of one VPSG-4 Senior Analyst and three VPSG-3 Analysts.
This position is a fixed 2-year term position, additional to the current analytical team, to focus solely on the identification and application of the Confiscation Act 1997 in respect of the illicit tobacco market within Victoria.

Your duties will include:
- Supporting investigation and restraint of the proceeds of crime of the illicit tobacco and electronic cigarette market within Victoria.
- Co-ordinating Intelligence assessments relating to the movement of proceeds of crime of the illicit tobacco and electronic cigarette market within Victoria.
- Identification of methodologies, intelligence and opportunities for disruption, under relevant Proceeds of Crime legislation.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders, industry and law enforcement partners.
- Providing analysis of statistical information for the Asset Confiscation Scheme.
- Providing analysis and statistical information for government reporting under the Confiscation Act 1997.
- Liaison with external law enforcement agencies with respect to confiscation matters.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding in an intelligence role in a law enforcement agency or government authority
- Strategic analytical skills in a financial crime environment.
- Understanding of AMLCTF obligations, along with money laundering techniques.
- IT skills with respect to databases and systems.
- Have the ability to work in a team and in a developing and emerging work environment.
- Have a high level of resilience and emotional intelligence.
- One (1) x fixed term (2 years) position available.
- This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
- The successful applicant needs to have completed an approved Intelligence Program (Victoria Police approved Intelligence Program or equivalent).
- The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
- The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
