Position Description

Classification: ANU Level 8 (Administration)
Salary package: $121,359- $129,772 per annum plus 17% superannuation
Terms: Full time, Fixed term (12 months)

The Position

The Australian National University (ANU) is seeking an experienced Senior Officer, Compliance Delivery Program to lead and coordinate the University’s enterprise‐wide program to achieve and sustain compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

Operating in a highly decentralised environment, this role provides central coordination across Finance, Information Technology Services (ITS), the Information Security Office (ISO), and multiple payment‐taking business areas. The position is responsible for translating PCI DSS requirements into clear, practical remediation activities, overseeing delivery against agreed timelines, and providing senior leaders with transparent reporting on compliance status, risks, and resource implications.

You will act as the primary point of contact between ANU and key external stakeholders, including acquiring banks and third‐party payment service providers, supporting the University in meeting its regulatory, contractual, and risk management obligations.

This role does not have direct line management responsibility but exercises significant influence through leadership, coordination, and delivery of cross‐functional work plans

You are an experienced program or delivery manager with a strong track record of leading complex compliance or remediation programs in large, decentralised organisations.

You bring:

  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and influencing diverse stakeholder groups without formal authority
  • The ability to interpret regulatory or standards‐based requirements and translate them into prioritised, achievable work plans
  • A high‐level understanding of information security and technology concepts (such as system architecture, encryption, and network segmentation), enabling credible engagement with technical teams
  • Strong written communication skills, including experience producing executive‐level reports, guidance material, and assurance documentation
  • Confidence engaging with external stakeholders such as banks, auditors, regulators, or service providers

Experience with PCI DSS, payment systems, financial compliance frameworks, or working within higher education or similarly complex public‐sector environments will be highly regarded.

This role sits within Finance & Business Services, part of ANU Services Portfolio, in the Financial Systems and Transformation function.

The Finance Division plays a critical role in supporting the University’s strategic objectives by ensuring strong financial governance, compliance, and stewardship across a diverse and complex operating environment. Financial Systems and Transformation leads major initiatives that strengthen the university’s financial systems, controls, and risk management capabilities, working closely with technology, security, and business stakeholders across the University.

Joining this team offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of finance, technology, and risk, contributing directly to the University’s regulatory compliance and operational resilience.
