Job description
This Is Not Just Sewing. This Is The Art Of Making Clothes Feel Like They Were Made For Someone.
There is a moment in alterations that only a good tailor understands.
A customer walks in with a jacket that nearly fits. A dress that almost sits right. A pair of pants they love but cannot wear. A formal gown that needs to feel perfect before a big event. A suit that needs shape, balance and confidence brought back into it.
Then the right person gets their hands on it.
A pin here. A taper there. A hem that lands exactly where it should. A zip replaced cleanly. A waist adjusted without ruining the line of the garment. A formal piece reshaped with care instead of rushed through like a ticket number.
That is the work.
We are looking for experienced Tailors and Clothing Alterations Specialists for multiple full-time opportunities across Sydney.
These roles are suited to people who genuinely care about fit, finish and detail. People who can look at a garment and understand what needs to happen. People who take pride in turning “this does not feel right” into “this is perfect”.
The Work
You will be working across high-quality clothing alterations and repairs, including:
Hemming pants, dresses, skirts and garments
Waist adjustments
Taking garments in and letting garments out
Tapering trousers, shirts, jackets and other garments
Zip replacements and garment repairs
Formalwear alterations
Bridalwear modifications
Men’s and women’s garments
Pinning, measuring and fitting customers where required
Working with different fabrics, garment types and finishes
Checking your own work for quality, fit and presentation
This is hands-on tailoring and alteration work. Not factory-style repetition all day. Not mindless production. You will be working on real garments for real people who care about how they look and feel.
Who This Will Suit
This role will suit someone who has worked as a:
Tailor
Alterations Specialist
Seamstress
Dressmaker
Clothing Repair Specialist
Bridal Alterations Hand
Formalwear Alterations Specialist
Dry Cleaning Alterations Tailor
Sewing Machinist with strong garment alteration experience
You do not need a perfect resume.
You do need real skill.
If you can alter garments properly, communicate with customers professionally and take pride in clean, accurate work, we want to speak with you.
What We Are Looking For
Experience in tailoring, clothing alterations or garment repairs
Confidence working with men’s and women’s garments
Strong sewing machine skills
Good hand-finishing ability
Ability to complete hems, zips, tapering, resizing and repairs
Strong eye for detail
Pride in your work
Reliability
Good communication skills
Ability to work full-time hours
A friendly and professional approach with customers
Why This Opportunity Is Worth Looking At
A lot of skilled tailors and alteration people end up hidden away in small shops, working inconsistent hours, doing cash jobs, taking work home, dealing with difficult customers on their own, or never getting properly recognised for the skill they have.
This is different.
These are full-time roles with a growing alterations business that has multiple locations across Sydney and consistent customer demand.
That means:
Stable full-time work
$30 to $40 per hour, depending on experience
Multiple Sydney locations available
Immediate starts available
Consistent workflow
Real alteration and tailoring work
A business that understands garment repairs, reshaping, formalwear and customer fittings
Long-term opportunity for the right people
A chance to do skilled work and be valued for it
This is the kind of role where your hands, your eye and your standards matter.
If you are the person people come to when something needs to fit properly, we want to hear from you.
About Trial By Fire Recruitment
Trial By Fire Recruitment is not a general recruitment agency throwing random resumes at random jobs.
We work closely with trade, workshop, textile, furniture, upholstery and manufacturing businesses. We understand hands-on skill. We understand that a good tailor, machinist or alterations specialist is not just “someone who can sew”. There is judgement, patience, precision and pride in the work.
Our role is simple: we help skilled people find workplaces where they are respected, and we help good businesses find people who can actually do the job.
No pressure. No hard sell. No wasting your time.
