Join our team and play a key role in delivering high-quality plant production and horticultural services that support Council operations, revegetation projects, and community programs.

What We Are Looking For:

We are seeking a qualified and hands-on horticulture professional with a strong background in nursery operations and tropical plant species. You will bring practical experience in plant propagation, pest and disease management, and maintaining high-quality plant stock, alongside a solid understanding of WHS and environmental practices.

A Certificate III in Horticulture (or similar) and relevant certifications are essential. You will be physically fit and comfortable working in a tropical outdoor environment, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are key, as you will supervise staff and work closely with volunteers, community groups, and internal stakeholders. A proactive, “can do” attitude and commitment to quality customer service will ensure success in this role.

What You Will Do:

  • Administer, operate and maintain Stratford Nursery to deliver quality plant stock on time
  • Collect and manage seed stock, ensuring compliance with legislation and plant protection guidelines
  • Propagate and maintain tubestock and advanced plant stock for revegetation and tree planting programs
  • Prepare planting media and maintain nursery hygiene and standards
  • Monitor and manage weeds, pests and diseases using integrated pest management practices
  • Provide technical horticultural advice to support nursery operations and improvements
  • Procure materials and coordinate maintenance of nursery infrastructure
  • Maintain accurate plant records, registers and labelling
  • Supervise casual staff, volunteers and community groups, including on-the-job training
  • Support community engagement initiatives and Green Space Our Place programs
  • Ensure compliance with WHS, environmental and quality requirements while delivering excellent customer service
