Our Graduate Support Program for Perioperative Nurses is designed to support your transition from study to specialty practice, opening the door to one of the most employable and in demand areas of nursing.
This 12-month program is tailored to your areas of perioperative interest, learning style and long-term career goals in the operating suite.

About the program
When you join our Graduate Support Program for Perioperative Nurses, you become part of a supportive team focused environment that values learning, safety and patient centred care. Over 12-months commencing each February, you will develop confidence, refine your technical skills and establish strong professional identity within the perioperative specialty.
Working across one of Epworth’s 50+ operating theatres, you will be exposed to a large variety of surgical specialties and procedures, while learning from highly skilled perioperative teams and specialist surgeons. The graduate program operates across four Epworth sites, and you have the opportunity to select your preferred site in your application.
You will have the opportunity to rotate through key perioperative areas, including:
- Scrub/Scout
- Postanaesthetic Care Unit (PACU)
- Anaesthetics

Your perioperative journey is supported through a comprehensive, multi–tiered support structure, giving you access to:
- Perioperative Nurse Managers and Associate Nurse Managers
- Perioperative Clinical Nurse Educators

The perioperative education team along with clinical staff are here to support you throughout your graduate journey. Staff will provide guidance, answer your questions and assist you to develop advanced skills to navigate complex clinical situations in the perioperative space as well as connect with the broader Epworth community.
Your graduate program includes an extensive orientation and supernumerary period as well as a structured learning program that includes graduate development days. The overall program provides opportunities to consolidate knowledge, share experiences, and build connections with fellow graduates, in addition to participating in perioperative specific education.

Epworth Eastern (Box Hill)
Located in Box Hill, Epworth Eastern is a state-of-the-art facility with 15 theatres and expanded Critical Care services. Epworth Freemasons - Albert Street & Victoria Parade (East Melbourne)
Located in East Melbourne, close to public transport and the CBD, Epworth Freemasons provides a range of world-class health services. Eligibility requirements
Before commencing the program, you must:
- Be on track to complete a Bachelor or Master of Nursing
- Be eligible for AHPRA registration before the program start date
- Hold Australian citizenship, permanent residency, New Zealand citizenship, or a valid working visa with unrestricted part- time work rights
