The Position

The Director, Future Students provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of student recruitment across domestic and international markets, reporting to the Pro Vice Chancellor (International & Future Students). This role drives growth and diversification in undergraduate, postgraduate coursework, foundation, and articulation programs by developing and implementing integrated recruitment strategies informed by market intelligence and sector trends.

The Director holds significant financial and staff management responsibilities, ensuring effective student engagement, outreach, and conversion processes from first contact through to enrolment. Working closely with senior staff, College Deans and College leadership teams, Brand and Marketing, Residential Experience Division, the Director of Pathways, Planning Data and Analytics and the International Office, the Director fosters a coordinated, University-wide approach to recruitment that reflects academic priorities and supports ANU’s broader internationalisation objectives.

Key responsibilities include building strong relationships with agents, schools, government agencies, and industry partners, driving digital and data-driven recruitment initiatives, ensuring compliance with legislation, and providing expert advice to senior leadership on student marketing, recruitment, and retention.

The Person

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished leader with relevant undergraduate and/or postgraduate qualifications and significant experience in higher education recruitment or a comparable sector. They will demonstrate expertise in managing complex administrative systems, financial and human resources, and large-scale projects that enhance decision-making through data-driven reporting and analysis. With strong strategic planning capabilities, they will design and implement policies, processes, and improvements that align with the University’s mission and values. The candidate will also bring outstanding communication, negotiation, and leadership skills, with proven ability to manage change, mentor staff, and build strong, collaborative partnerships across diverse internal and external stakeholders to achieve organisational goals.
