Job description
Sewing Work With A Sky Above It
Most sewing jobs sound the same.
Same machines. Same production lines. Same kind of work every day.
This one is different.
We are looking for an experienced Industrial Sewing Machinist to join a specialist manufacturing team in Kurnell, helping produce hang glider sails for an Australian business with a long history in the sport.
This is technical sewing.
Not fashion sewing.
Not alterations.
Not basic production work.
You will be working on specialist products where precision, strength, attention to detail and pride in the finish genuinely matter.
The Role
You will be involved in sewing and assembling hang glider sails as part of a hands-on manufacturing team.
The work is detailed, practical and unique. You will be using industrial sewing machines, working with technical materials, following production requirements and learning a product that very few sewing machinists ever get the chance to work on.
If you are confident on industrial machines and want to do something more interesting than standard sewing work, this is worth a conversation.
What You’ll Be Doing
Operating industrial sewing machines
Sewing and assembling hang glider sails
Working with specialist materials and components
Following production instructions carefully
Checking your own work for quality and accuracy
Learning specialist techniques used in hang glider manufacturing
Working with a team that takes pride in what they build
Who This Could Suit
We are interested in speaking with people from sewing backgrounds such as:
Industrial sewing
Sailmaking
Canvas work
Marine trimming
Shade sails or awnings
Upholstery sewing
Soft furnishings
Technical textiles
Garment production with strong machine skills
Sailmaking experience would be highly regarded, but it is not essential.
If you are strong on industrial sewing machines, reliable and open to learning something highly specialised, we want to hear from you.
What We Are Looking For
Experience operating industrial sewing machines
Strong attention to detail
Pride in clean, accurate work
Practical, hands-on attitude
Ability to follow instructions
Good communication skills
Reliability
Willingness to learn
Physical fitness for some lifting when required
Why This Role Is Worth Looking At
This is not the kind of sewing role that comes up every day.
You will not just be sewing another garment, cushion, cover or curtain.
You will be helping produce hang glider sails used by pilots who rely on quality, consistency and trust in the product.
What is on offer:
Full-time stable work
Good pay for the right person
Training provided
Friendly team environment
Specialist manufacturing work
Opportunity to learn sailmaking and hang glider production
Long-term opportunity for the right person
