The Position

The Rural Education Coordinator is a critical professional role within the Rural Clinical School (RCS), reporting to the RCS Manager and working closely with the Academic Education Lead, RCS leadership, academic staff, and professional colleagues across the Medical School and Clinical Schools. The position provides leadership and coordination across the rural medical education portfolio, with responsibility for the operational administration, delivery, and quality assurance of rural teaching and learning activities across RCS programs.

Under broad direction, the role oversees complex education administration functions including timetabling, curriculum delivery, student progression, compliance reporting, and the management of digital learning environments such as Canvas. The position ensures that University policies, procedures, and legislative requirements are consistently applied, KPIs are monitored and reported, and opportunities for service improvement are identified and implemented. It also plays a key role in stakeholder engagement, liaison with internal and external partners (including ARMS and regional training hubs), and the promotion of rural medical education through communication, engagement, and marketing initiatives, contributing directly to the quality and continuity of the rural student experience.

The Person

The ideal candidate is an experienced education administration professional with strong knowledge of complex tertiary education environments and a demonstrated ability to coordinate teaching and learning activities across multiple stakeholders. They will bring a high level of organisational capability, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities while meeting tight academic and operational deadlines.

The successful applicant will possess excellent communication and relationship‐management skills, enabling effective collaboration with academic staff, professional colleagues, students, and internal and external partners. They will demonstrate sound judgement, initiative, and problem‐solving skills, with the capacity to provide high‐level advice on education administration matters and ensure compliance with University policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.

A commitment to service excellence and continuous process improvement is essential, along with strong capability in data analysis, reporting, and the use of digital learning systems such as Canvas. The role requires a proactive and adaptable individual who is motivated by supporting high‐quality student experiences and who values teamwork, professionalism, and the objectives of rural medical education.

The School

The Rural Clinical School (RCS) is a key component of the ANU Medical School and plays a central role in delivering high‐quality rural medical education across the School’s catchment. The RCS supports undergraduate medical students through immersive rural clinical training, contributing to the University’s commitment to addressing rural health workforce needs and improving health outcomes in regional and remote communities.

Working in close collaboration with academic leaders, clinical educators, health services, and University stakeholders, the RCS delivers teaching and learning activities across multiple locations and years of the Doctor of Medicine and Surgery (MChD) program. The School is characterised by a strong collegial culture, a commitment to student support and educational excellence, and an emphasis on continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration.
