About the role

Reporting to the Asset Data & Governance Manager, we are seeking an experienced Data Engineer who is ready to step up as a technical lead and trusted advisor. This role is critical in driving the convergence of Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) through advanced data engineering.

Working closely with Analytics, OT, and IT teams, you’ll deliver reliable and efficient data integration, empowering operational business units to achieve excellence and unlock new efficiencies.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain secure, reliable data pipelines and transformation processes to ensure high data quality, consistency and availability.
  • Build and support API‐based data integrations, including ingestion, synchronisation and validation of data from CMMS platforms (e.g., MaintainX) and other BESS‐related systems.
  • Manage and optimise data storage and retrieval across operational systems, enterprise platforms and central data repositories, ensuring performance and scalability.
  • Document end‐to‐end data flows, integration points, dependencies and lineage in a clear, structured and maintainable manner.
  • Develop reusable scripts, tools and automation to uplift data quality, improve accessibility and support analytics, modelling and visualisation activities.

About you

You’re a collaborative data leader who helps teams embrace data integration and interoperability, and champions continuous improvement to deliver reliable, high-quality data and measurable business outcomes. Additionally, you will have most of the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong skills in Python and SQL for data engineering tasks; familiarity with languages like Scala or Java for big data integration.
  • Hands-on experience with data pipelines, ETL/ELT, delta sharing processes, and integration of operational or time-series data.
  • Solid understanding of DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Git, CI/CD, automated testing).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify issues and implement lasting solutions.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, including technical diagrams and system descriptions.
  • Working knowledge of the energy sector and the convergence of Operational Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT).
