Opportunity Knocks

At Westpac, we’re investing in data, digital and AI to shape the future of banking. This role sits at the intersection of Data and Economics, helping translate rich data into meaningful insights for institutional clients and influencing one of the most trusted economic voices in Australia.

About the Team

The DataX and Economics teams sit within WIB DDAI (Data, Digital & AI) and deliver data-driven products and insights to external institutional clients, while Economics provides macroeconomic research and forecasts that shapes Westpac's market voice.

The two teams share significant synergies – common data assets, analytical tooling, and publication pipelines – and this squad brings together data engineering, data science, and platform engineering expertise to unlock those synergies, accelerating value for both external clients and the Economics research agenda.

What you’ll be doing

  • Own and drive the DataX–Economics partnership roadmap, aligning data and AI capabilities to research and publication priorities
  • Lead delivery across a cross-functional squad (data engineering, data science, and platform engineering)
  • Prioritise initiatives to balance quick wins and long-term strategic uplift
  • Partner with senior stakeholders across Economics and WIB Data & Analytics
  • Ensure strong governance, risk management, and delivery discipline
  • Promote reusable, scalable data and AI capabilities across the organisation

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience leading data, analytics, or platform delivery (minimum 5+ years) in a diverse enterprise corporate arena in a similar role
  • Tertiary qualified in a relevant technical discipline
  • Strong stakeholder engagement with senior and executive audiences
  • You are a natural leader who is inclusive, hands-on and inspires others to achieve great outcomes
  • Solid commercial acumen and advanced presentation skills
  • Track record delivering data platforms, pipelines, or analytics products at scale
  • Experience working in Agile or hybrid environments
  • Financial services or economics domain exposure
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Synapse (or similar)
  • Experience delivering AI/ML enabled solutions, with solid Python, SQL and Spark in production skills
  • Solid Transformation or change program experience
