About the Role
SHRI MAHA VARAHI PTY LTD (T/A CURRY POINT by Bezawada Babu) is seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to join our growing team in North Geelong, VIC. Known for our authentic South Indian and Andhra-style cuisine, we pride ourselves on delivering rich flavours, quality ingredients, and exceptional customer service in our restaurant environment.
This full-time opportunity is ideal for a motivated chef who enjoys hands-on cooking, kitchen leadership, and maintaining high food quality standards. The successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing kitchen operations, supporting junior staff, and ensuring every dish reflects the authentic taste and presentation our customers expect.
Responsibilities
1. Hands-on Cooking: Preparing and cooking a wide variety of dishes and specialty Andhra meals.
2. Kitchen Safety: Enforcing food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards in compliance with Australian food handling regulations, including safe storage, temperature monitoring, and kitchen cleanliness practices.
3. Staff Development: Assisting in the recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and practical training of junior staff to maintain efficient kitchen performance and teamwork.
4. Quality Control: Supervising food preparation and final presentation during service to maintain consistent flavour, spice balance, portion sizes, and authentic Vijayawada-style standards.
5. Cross-Team Coordination: Coordinating closely with restaurant management, floor staff, and kitchen team to ensure smooth service flow, and accurate handling of customer dietary requirements and special requests.
6. Technical Instruction: Training kitchen staff in traditional South Indian cooking methods, and efficient food preparation procedures.
7. Stock Preservation: Managing inventory, stock rotation, refrigeration, freezing, and using ingredient preservation techniques to reduce food wastage and maintain freshness.
8. Menu & Cost Management: Planning and updating authentic South Indian and Andhra-style menus while controlling food costs, labour expenses, and supplier purchasing for daily operations.
What We’re Looking For
1. Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery and Diploma of Hospitality Management
2. At least 1 year of experience working as a Chef in a busy commercial kitchen
3. Experience preparing authentic Indian, South Indian, or Andhra-style cuisine will be highly regarded
4. Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety, and quality control standards
5. Sound understanding of stock control, portion management, and cost control practices
6. Strong communication, teamwork, and time management skills
7. Passion for authentic cooking, consistency, and customer satisfaction
