About the role

As a Project Cost Controller, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of major capital and infrastructure projects across V/Line’s regional rail network. Reporting to the Senior Project Cost Controller, you will work closely with Project Managers to establish and maintain effective cost control, forecasting and reporting systems.

You will support strong financial governance across projects by monitoring costs, analysing variances, managing invoices, and providing transparent, timely financial reporting to support informed decision‐making.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting or a related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience in project cost control on major projects
  • Demonstrated experience in project cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Strong capability in budget management, variance analysis, and ETC/EAC forecasting
  • Advanced Excel skills with proven ability to manage and analyse large data sets
  • Experience with financial and cost systems (e.g. JDE, timesheet systems, cost management software)
  • Proven experience in invoice processing, contractor cost review, and variation analysis
  • Ability to clearly explain cost variances and financial risks to Project Managers and stakeholders
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, working collaboratively with internal and external partners

Location & Travel Considerations

This role is based at 452 Flinders Street, Melbourne, with hybrid working arrangements available. Occasional travel to project sites or off‐site meetings may be required, depending on project needs.

About you

You are a commercially minded and detail‐focused project professional with experience in cost control or project financial management. You have strong analytical skills, work confidently with budgets and forecasts, and collaborate effectively with project teams to support accurate financial reporting and delivery.

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following key selection criteria within their application, as this forms part of our merit-based recruitment process:
