About the Team

The DataX and Economics teams sit within WIB DDAI (Data, Digital & AI) and deliver data-driven products and insights to external institutional clients, while Economics provides macroeconomic research and forecasts that shapes Westpac's market voice.

We’re looking for a hands-on Platform Engineer to lead a critical uplift across our Economics and DataX environment — transforming how data, tooling and insights come together to power decision-making at scale.

You’ll play a central role in modernising a data environment — bringing structure, scalability and automation where it matters most.

The day to day ...

  • Lift and simplify a complex data landscape
  • Build a single governed data access layer
  • Standardise tooling and integrate specialist tools
  • Deliver end-to-end automated pipelines
  • Embed reusable patterns and documentation

Core experience

  • Advanced Data/platform engineering experience across Python, SQL, and Spark
  • Highly developed ETL/ELT pipeline development and integration of multiple data sources
  • Cloud platforms SME (Azure, Databricks, Snowflake)
  • Transforming manual workflows into scalable systems
  • Data cataloguing tools, CI/CD for data pipelines
  • Ability to operate in complex enterprise environments with strong stakeholder engagement with Publication or research environment exposure advantageous
