About the role

As the Conductor, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s Operations Group.

You will be based onboard our trains primarily responsible for the safety of all those onboard. This position requires you to keep in constant communication with the driver via radio, staying up to date with passenger numbers of those boarding and alighting at each stop and capture this data in various V/Line apps. You'll also be administering first aid and spot cleaning the train as required, the whole time providing exceptional customer service to all our passengers

Key accountabilities include:

· Customer Service & Information: Be the go-to person for passengers, helping and information to customers face to face, and via a PA system

· Train Preparation: Ensure trains are ready for service, from cleanliness to functionality

· Fare Management: Handle ticket sales, checking tickets, and provide fare advice during train services.

· Platform Duties: Oversee train departures and assist with luggage at stations

· Coach Duties: Manage coaches during planned and unplanned disruptions and events

· Fault Reporting: Manage and report any equipment or facility issues

· Emergency Management: Be prepared to handle service disruptions and emergencies

Key selection criteria

· Conductor Training Course

· First Aid – Level 2

· Food Hygiene for food handlers Level 1

· Track Awareness

· Fares and ticketing manual, including the new ticketing system

· Be able to travel and work within 80km from your home depot as required

· Basic understanding of/familiarity with computer applications

· Commitment to customer service

· Personable, with team focus

· Demonstrates attention to detail

About you

A true customer service professional, you are punctual, reliable, energetic and your communication skills are second to none. Someone who remains calm under pressure, you enjoy working in an environment where no two days are the same, in a team and company who genuinely care for you and your career development. You'll need to be adaptable to change and develop the ability to not let negative interactions stick with you and always maintain emotional resilience and professionalism.

To be considered for entry into the selection process for this role, applicants must meet the following 'key selection criteria' which forms part of our merit-based recruitment process:**

· The ability to work a 24/7 rotating roster

· Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

· A valid driver’s license

· Completion of Year 10 or equivalent

· Demonstrated face to face customer service knowledge and experience

· Live within an acceptable distance from the station to support safety and effective fatigue management. (circa 40km)

· Have the ability to exert up to 23kg of force on occasion (e.g. lifting items up to 10kg, squatting and/or bending, standing for extended periods). This will be assessed through the medical check outlined below.
