Job description

The Team:

Medical and Cancer Services (MaCS) provide contemporary inpatient and outpatient health care services including Cancer Services, Acute Medicine, Subspecialty Medicine (Gastroenterology, Renal, Rheumatology, Neurology, Endocrinology), Respiratory, Ambulatory Care Services and Cardiology.

The CNC Patient Safety & Quality provides expert leadership and applies evidence-based health care improvement approaches to improve patient quality and safety within MaCS.

The Role:

The Clinical Nurse Consultant - Patient Safety and Quality contributes to the successful positioning of the clinical stream through the provision of high quality, accountable and measurable healthcare both internally and externally, by supporting the clinical streams to operate effective clinical services in accordance with the Agency and Patient Safety objectives.

The successful applicant will:

  • Apply a clinical perspective to all facets of the Patient Safety Service across the Medical and Cancer Services Stream.
  • Lead and monitor the safety event monitoring program including identification and investigation of serious incidents and implementation of ratified recommendations.
  • Facilitate and lead the introduction, implementation and monitoring of patient safety and quality initiatives across the Medical and Cancer Services Stream.
  • Coordinate patient feedback whilst ensuring appropriate and timely responses.

You will need:

  • Broad clinical and operational experience within a complex health care environment encompassing acute and subacute health services; with a demonstrated understanding of patient safety.
  • Extensive knowledge of and commitment to continuous quality improvement and accreditation processes including risk management, undertaking investigations, preparation of witness statements, National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards and other accreditation activities.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal, communication, mediation, and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to effectively liaise with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders with a demonstrated ability to influence and motivate staff.

Details of appointment:

Fixed term full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, for a period up to three (3) months, commencing as soon as possible.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $118,297 to $125,543 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

  • Holds, or is working towards, relevant postgraduate qualifications
