This is an Associate Research position working closely with the FX, Rates, Commodities and Credit Strategy teams within the broader NAB Economics and Markets Research function.
Reporting to the Senior FX Strategist, you will support research and strategy across currency, commodity and fixed income (rates and credit) markets.
The role provides broad exposure to global macroeconomic themes, financial markets, and applied strategy, offering a strong foundation for someone with a deep academic grounding in macroeconomics and a genuine passion for markets.
You will also act as a key source of information and analytical support for internal stakeholders across the bank, contributing to research that directly informs client outcomes and strategic decision‐making.

In the role of Associate, you will join the Markets Economics and Research****team that’s doubling down on winning together.
As an Associate within the Economics and Markets Research team, each day you will go above and beyond to:
Contribute to regular and thematic research publications, translating macroeconomic and market insights into clear, well‐structured written output
Assist in the preparation of client‐facing and internal presentations
Support market analysis and forecasting, contributing to views on FX, interest rates and related macro drivers
Demonstrate a strong interest in the design, use and interpretation of quantitative and forecasting models, including econometric techniques
Build strong working relationships across the Economics and Markets Research team and internal stakeholders across
Deliver ad‐hoc analysis in response to evolving market conditions and stakeholder needs
Continuously deepen your understanding of global macroeconomics, financial markets and policy dynamics, with a clear thirst for learning and improvement
We’re looking for ambitious, intellectually curious candidates who want to make a real difference. You’ll need:
A strong academic background in macroeconomics. A graduate or recent graduate looking for their first opportunity in markets.
Knowledge of statistical and econometric techniques, including coding skills (with Python preferred)
A demonstrated passion for financial markets, especially rates, currencies and/or commodities, evidenced through study, research projects, internships or self‐directed learning
Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesise complex information and communicate it clearly in both written and verbal form
Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills, and the drive to succeed in a fast‐paced, highly numerate and intellectually demanding environment
Experience using, or keen interest in applying, AI tools and models to research and analytical use cases
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office
Relevant tertiary qualifications, with postgraduate study (Master’s level) and/or CFA progress preferred
