About the role

The Lead – Commercial corporate & professional services is a key role responsible for driving category management and unlocking value from Origin's procurement spend. This position provides strategic commercial insight, procurement strategy advice, and hands-on leadership to ensure that supplier engagements deliver long-term value and effectively manage risk in a complex and evolving operational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development to the Procurement team, fostering a culture of high-performance and capability.
  • Lead category strategy development and sourcing activities to reduce total cost and maximise commercial value across the supply chain.
  • Establish strong advisory relationships with key business stakeholders, providing timely commercial counsel and driving collaborative outcomes.
  • Lead and define requirements for supplier negotiations to extract maximum value and minimise commercial risk, ensuring robust contract drafting.
  • Demonstrate strong category knowledge and commercial acumen to strategically influence decisions and improve market position.
  • Uphold and lead the application of procurement governance, processes, and systems, ensuring full compliance with regulatory and legislative frameworks.
  • Champion a mindset of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for cost reduction and process efficiency.
  • Actively model and promote the company's Purpose and Values, fostering an environment of collaboration, accountability, and growth.

More about you

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Law, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in energy, resources, utilities, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Understanding of the Australian regulatory environment and its impact on procurement and contracting.
  • Good understanding of contract legal terms and conditions and experience negotiating these.
  • Knowledge of working in labour based categories specifically contingent labour and consulting services.
  • Knowledge of sustainability, social procurement, and Indigenous supplier engagement practices.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to analyse complex commercial arrangements, assess risk and identify value creation opportunities.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with a demonstrated ability to secure favourable commercial outcomes while maintaining strong supplier and stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distil complex information into clear, concise advice for both technical and non-technical audiences.
