A great opportunity to join the Technology Transactional Banking payments team in this busy Head of Technology Real Time Payments role to continue to deliver and grow the payments services goals. This is an engineering-led leadership role, suited to someone who brings strong software engineering fundamentals, modern delivery practices and an engineering mindset to building reliable, scalable real-time payments services.

In the Head of Technology Real Time Payments role, you will report to the Executive Technology Transaction Banking Payment Services that’s doubling down on customer obsession and winning together.

Each Day You Will Go Above And Beyond To

  • Provide strong technical and engineering leadership within the Enterprise Payments domain, including modern software engineering practices, architecture and reliability.
  • Ensure the mission critical services supporting real time payments are engineered and operated efficiently and reliably in Production (availability, performance, resilience, observability, incident response and problem management), within enterprise risk tolerances and adhering to the Groups Critical Hygiene Framework.
  • Deliver best-in-class, innovative growth across payments services through strong engineering execution (secure SDLC, CI/CD automation, quality engineering and continuous delivery).
  • Ensure legal, regulatory, and payments scheme compliance obligations are met
  • Manage key suppliers and partners, ensuring alignment with the risk management framework
  • Relentlessly drive productivity and continuous improvement across the technology business using an engineering mindset (automation, measurement, reducing toil, improving flow, and uplifting reliability and developer experience).
  • Lead, coach and mentor team to drive engagement and outcomes, and uplift core software engineering capability across onshore (Australia) and offshore teams.
  • Drive the group workforce strategy - leveraging NAB innovation centres in India & Vietnam
  • Drive the modernisation and simplification of the tech estate, including modern architecture and engineering patterns (API-first integration, automation, platform engineering and cloud enablement where appropriate).

We’re looking for the best and brightest to deliver the best for our customers. You’ll need:

  • Proven experience in technology leadership across change and run, with an engineering mindset (data-driven decision making, continuous improvement, and a bias to automation and simplicity).
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and literacy (ability to engage in design reviews, understand code-level trade-offs, and drive engineering standards across teams).
  • Experience designing and operating large-scale, low-latency, highly available services (distributed systems), including performance, resilience and disaster recovery considerations.
  • Demonstrated enterprise payments experience (or related transaction services) across large institutions.
  • Detailed understanding of Australian Payments schemes, specifically NPP.
  • Extensive experience with agile software development and modern engineering tooling and practices (CI/CD, automated testing, code quality, and DevSecOps ways of working).
  • Demonstrated track-record of bringing continuous improvement to bear
  • Exceptional internal/external stakeholder and supplier management
  • Experience working in a DevOps/SRE environment, including observability (monitoring, logging, tracing), incident management and operational readiness.
  • Track record of strong experience operating effectively and delivering consistent results in a large complex business
  • Strong customer focus & commercial acumen
  • Track record in leading cultural change
  • Proven experience in multi-location/global people management and leadership.
