  • Permanent full-time role based on Bidjigal Country in Hurstville

About the role

As our Team Leader - Carer Gateway, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting a dedicated team delivering counselling, coaching and personalised support to carers. Leading a team of counsellors, you will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination, performance and sustainability of service delivery. You will embed service quality, drive continuous improvement and ensure carers feel heard, supported and empowered.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will balance compassion with accountability, supporting staff through complex client work while ensuring consistent, efficient and high-quality service delivery.

Duties

  • Lead, support and develop a team of counsellors to deliver high-quality, person-centred services in line with program goals and KPIs.
  • Oversee referrals, intake and allocation processes to ensure timely and appropriate service delivery.
  • Monitor and manage team workload, supporting sustainable practice and staff wellbeing.
  • Drive consistency in service delivery, including session targets, scheduling and documentation standards.
  • Provide clear, strengths-based performance management, coaching and development support.
  • Manage operational requirements including leave planning, resourcing and service coverage.
  • Lead the team through change with clarity, empathy and structure, fostering trust and psychological safety.
  • Champion learning, reflective practice and professional growth by identifying development needs, supporting skills uplift and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external standards including accreditation, WHS, service contracts and professional practice requirements.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams within human services, community services or similar environments.
  • Proven ability to manage performance, workload and competing priorities in a fast-paced service setting.
  • Strong operational and coordination skills, with the ability to balance people leadership and service delivery outcomes.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, resolve conflict, and support staff working with complex client needs.
  • A relational and values-driven leadership style, with the confidence to set clear expectations and boundaries.
  • Ability to lead through change, bringing teams along with transparency, empathy and accountability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to supporting staff capability, wellbeing and performance.
  • Tertiary qualifications in human services or a related field (or equivalent experience).
