About the role

The Projects Group is responsible for developing, delivering and assuring project-related changes and improvements across the regional rail network.

The Group coordinates, integrates and delivers major projects and network change in a safe, collaborative and innovative manner, enabling V/Line to shape the improvement and modernisation of V/Line’s regional transport service.

Your role as The Systems Assurance Lead is responsible for supporting projects with the implementation of V/Line Systems Assurance framework, including systems safety engineering and supporting the Change Control Board requirements (CCB) to achieve successful project outcomes.

This role will be responsible for conducting stakeholder engagement to ensure compliance and adherence to V/Line Safety Management System (SMS) and obligations under the Rail Safety accreditation throughout the project lifecycle.

The Systems Assurance Lead will be responsible for the application and improvement of V/Line Systems Assurance methodology based on best practice and integration to V/Line assurance frameworks for allocated projects, coordinating assurance deliverables across a complex program of work to ensure that network changes meet V/Line requirements for safety, operations and maintenance.

As well as performing duties specified in this position description an employee may be required to undertake other duties or functions consistent with their classification, capabilities, and skills.

Position Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the application of V/Line Systems Assurance methodology based on best practice and integration to V/Line assurance frameworks for allocated projects
  • Support and mentor Systems Assurance Engineers within the team, and advocate for the Systems Assurance Engineering process with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop project specific Systems Assurance Management Plans and Systems Assurance Statements
  • Conducting Assurance Reviews for projects throughout the project lifecycle to ensure compliance to V/Line’s Safety Management System and V/Line assurance plans
  • Presenting project assurance status at V/Line Change Control Board where required
  • Co-ordination and engagement with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that V/Line requirements and interests are represented at various forums
  • Provide system safety and systems assurance expertise to projects based on standards EN50126, EN50128, EN50129, (IEC 62278, IEC 62279, IEC 62425), and engineering safety requirements specified in the SMS
  • Support in the continuous improvement of V/Line systems and processes.

About you

Reporting to the Systems Engineering & System Assurance (SESA) Manager, the Systems Assurance Lead provides subject matter expertise in Systems Assurance within the Projects Group and supports and mentors Systems Assurance Engineers to achieve the best outcomes.

Selection Criteria:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE and PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

· A tertiary qualification in Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia (Essential)

· Registered Professional Engineer of Victoria (RPEV), or eligibility and commitment to obtain registration within an agreed timeframe (Essential)

· 5+ years’ experience in Systems Assurance or Systems Safety essential (Essential)

· 2+ years relevant experience in any of: Project Management, Risk Management, Systems Engineering, Systems Integration, Functional Safety, RAM (Essential)

· Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) (Desirable)

· International Engineering Safety Management (iESM)

· Functional Safety Certification (Exida, TUV or similar) Desirable

· Previous experience in rail infrastructure or rollingstock will be highly regarded

· Leadership and mentoring skills.
