Position Type: Permanent Full Time (9 day fortnight, 36.25 hours/week)
Salary Range: LGO6 ( $93,992 - $100,333 per annum + superannuation) based on skills, qualifications and experience

About The Role:
The position undertakes complex investigations and routine inspections in accordance with relevant legislation. The role has a focus on public health, environmental protection, and environmental health matters such as food safety, pollution, asbestos, and nuisance issues.
It manages complaints and escalated investigations, provides specialist advice and mentoring, assesses applications, and works proactively with the community and stakeholders to promote education and ensure compliance.
This role supports customer‑focused outcomes and accountability for delivering Council’s Corporate Plan and policies. This is done by maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and ensuring high‑quality internal and external customer service through continuous improvement of processes and practices.
The role also contributes to disaster management planning and supports business continuity during unplanned disruptions.
About You:
- Degree and/or postgraduate qualification in Environmental Health endorsed by Environmental Health Australia.
- Strong knowledge of environmental health legislation and the ability to interpret and apply relevant state and local laws.
- Well‑developed understanding of environmental health principles, technical matters, and compliance requirements, with the ability to provide practical recommendations.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, meet deadlines, and perform effectively in time‑pressured situations.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage professionally with the community and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to high‑quality customer service and understanding of customer needs.
- Experience supporting, coaching, and mentoring team members, including Graduate and Student Environmental Health Officers.
- Experience using technical equipment relevant to environmental health activities.
- Ability to exercise sound professional judgement and discretion in complex or undefined situations.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to review and interpret legislation, policies, standards, and technical reports.
- Flexible and responsive approach to work, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Willingness and enthusiasm to learn new systems, processes, and procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Current unrestricted Queensland “C” Class driver licence.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Authorised Person status with Townsville City Council.
- Current Working with Children Clearance (Blue Card) or ability to obtain.
- Asbestos authorisation and disaster management training, or willingness to obtain.
- Availability to participate in rostered after‑hours inspections when required.
