The Role

The ABC is looking for an experienced Sound Producer to ensure the technical production of long form narrative documentaries for the ABC's flagship investigative podcast Background Briefing.

The Job

  • Produce long form audio narratives using strong editing and sound design
  • Contribute to program direction, sound, and structure
  • Record, edit, and mix diverse audio
  • Support studio production and post-production
  • Meet tight weekly deadlines
  • Collaborate with production teams to maintain quality
  • Keep skills and technology knowledge up to date
  • Create stories reflecting Australia’s diverse communities

About You

You'll have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience with radio editing software and digital audio tools (Reaper, Netia, WaveLab desirable)
  • Strong audio editing skills, including noise reduction
  • Ability to contribute creatively, technically and editorially to Background Briefing
  • Knowledge of copyright requirements and rights reporting
  • Initiative, problem‐solving skills and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong teamwork skills, including mentoring others
  • Passion for telling diverse Australian stories, including Indigenous and multicultural perspectives
