Are you ready for your next amazing challenge in the remote West Kimberley outback! Are you passionate about Indigenous education and making a difference!
We are seeking a vibrant, resilient, and creative teacher for our small secondary class (Years 7-10). With a knowledge and expertise in mainstream subject areas (Literacy and Numeracy), the successful candidate must also come with the enthusiasm and willingness to be involved with team teaching traditional Walmajarri language in the classroom, and part of maintaining the thriving EON Bush-Garden.
The school is situated within Yakanarra Community, which is approximately 120 kilometres south-west of Fitzroy Crossing, on the edge of the St Georges Ranges. The current site was selected because of its traditional and sacred significance to the Walmajarri people.
Yakanarra Community School is an independent school, established in 1991, that caters for children from pre-Kindy through to Year 10. The school is small but well maintained and resourced. All classrooms have access to I-pads, the internet, interactive whiteboards, and a recently upgraded music and band room rehearsal space.
As a member of our staff and community, you will join a dedicated and collaborative team of Indigenous and non-Indigenous educators all working together to promote and deliver a robust and culturally safe education that is striving to promote and encourage Indigenous languages to be spoken and culture be practised.
This is an opportunity to deliver a responsive and innovative educational program to Aboriginal youth in a remote community and be involved in a two-way learning model that values and respects both Indigenous and non-Indigenous ways of knowing, thinking and learning. As a Secondary teacher, you will help create a friendly and inclusive learning environment that helps prepare students for a positive future.
This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for the right person. Apply now!
