Website Yakanarra Community School
education teacher principal remote early years primary
Are you ready for your next amazing challenge in the remote West Kimberley outback! Are you passionate about Indigenous education and making a difference!
We are seeking an energetic, organised, and caring teacher for our small (under 10 student) Early Years class – Kindy to Grade 2 to start as soon as possible! With a knowledge and expertise of the Early Years Framework, the successful candidate must be resilient, flexible, and ready for a great challenge!
The school is situated within Yakanarra Community, which is approximately 120 kilometres south-west of Fitzroy Crossing, on the edge of the St Georges Ranges. The current site was selected because of its traditional and sacred significance to the Walmajarri people.
Yakanarra Community School is an independent school, established in 1991, that caters for children from pre-Kindy through to Year 10. The school is small but well maintained and resourced. All classrooms have access to I-pads, the internet, interactive whiteboards, and a recently upgraded music and band room rehearsal space.
As a member of our staff and community, you will join a dedicated and collaborative team of Indigenous and non-Indigenous educators all working together to promote and deliver a robust and culturally safe education that is striving to promote and encourage Indigenous languages to be spoken and culture be practised.
This is an opportunity to deliver a wholistic educational program to Aboriginal Early Years students in a remote community and be involved in a two-way learning model that values and respects both Indigenous and non-Indigenous ways of knowing, thinking and learning. As a Early Years teacher, you will help create a friendly and inclusive learning environment that welcomes and embraces family connections, along with working closely with the School Nurse, and the visiting Allied Health team.
This is a unique and rewarding opportunity for the right person. Apply now!
